system 360 System/360 (S/360) is a mainframe computer system family introduced by IBM in 1964. It was the first family of computers designed to cover a range of applications, from small to large, and to be compatible across the entire range. This compatibility allowed customers to upgrade their systems without having to rewrite their programs.

System/360 was a revolutionary system at the time of its introduction because it was designed to be compatible across a wide range of applications, from small to large. It also introduced the concept of virtual memory, which allowed programs to address more memory than physically available, improving system utilization.

The S/360 family was later replaced by the IBM System/370 and later generations of IBM mainframe computers. However, many of the principles and concepts introduced in System/360 are still in use today in modern mainframe computing systems.
